School Outreach
ATEI is developing a Tidal Energy School Outreach Program for grades 6 to 12 and have recently completed Phase I: development of tidal turbine demonstration kit and presentation of the activity to several groups for feedback. Phase I was made possible by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and a partnership between the Acadia Tidal Energy Institute and the Ivan Curry School of Engineering at Acadia University.
A group of Acadia University Engineering students designed and built a two tank table-top demonstration system that allows gravity to force water through a pipe between the two tanks with a 3D printed turbine blade configuration inserted into the flow and connected to a generator. The demonstration kit is part of a hands-on activity to help educate middle and high school students about harnessing the power of tidal energy.
ATEI members have attended several schools and events in the Nova Scotia to deliver a presentation with hands-on activity. If you would like more information about the program or are interested in having ATEI members attend your school or event please contact tidalenergy@acadiau.ca
